Greetings of Peace and Love!
With the imposition of Ashes on our forehead on Ash Wednesday (February 18,2026) we entered the 40 days Season of Lent, a season of conversion and penance in preparation for Easter. The Church who is mother and teacher calls all her members to renew ourselves in spirit and to turn once again with determination to God, renouncing pride and selfishness, to live in love. Lent is a time of Reflection and it also reminds us of the human journey of fall (moments of temptations) and redemption. And this is the reason why we mark our forehead with ashes in the SIGN OF A CROSS. In the words of the late Pope Francis, "This brings to mind the memory of what we are, but also the hope of what we will be. The ashes remind us that we are Dust, and to DUST WE SHALL RETURN. But they also set us on a journey towards the hope to which we are called. For Jesus descended to the dust of the earth and, by his Resurrection, has drawn us with himself into the Fathers heart."
Furthermore, the Season of Lent is a time in which the Church, guided by a sense of maternal care, invites us to place the mystery of God back in the center of our lives, in order to find renewal in our faith and keep our hearts from being consumed by the anxieties and distractions of daily life.
What is the Significance of 40 days in the Bible? The 40 days of Lent symbolize the time Jesus spent fasting and facing temptation in the desert before beginning his ministry (Mark I: 12-15; Matthew 4: 1-11 ). Moses fasted for forty days and nights on Mount Sinai before receiving the tablets of the covenant, the ten commandments (Ex 34:28). The Ninevites were given forty days by the Prophet Jonah before God was going to destroy the city, allowing time for repentance and conversion. (Jon 3:4-5). The period of 40 days is commonly associated with a "breaking point" or "waiting period" that culminates in a major spiritual re-awakening for a new beginning.
However, Spiritual renewal in the Bible, every story or path towards conversion begins by allowing the word of God to touch our hearts and by surrendering ourselves to Him, for He cannot work wonders in our lives if we harden our hearts. This transformation or spiritual renewal has been essential to Christianity from its very beginnings and is referred to as conversion (Greek, metanoia), meaning to change your mind, your whole self and therefore re-form your whole life.
Our First reading on Ash Wednesday from the Prophet Joel chapter 2 says, "Even now, says the LORD, return to me with your whole heart, with fasting, and weeping, and mourning; Rend your hearts, not your garments, and return to the LORD, your God."
Why must we return to God? Because something is not right in us, not right in society, not right in our relationship with one another, not right with our relationship with God. And because of this says the Prophet Joel, we need to change and give our life this time of Lent a new direction. In the words of Pope Leo, "Authentic conversion begins by making room for the Word of God through listening. The willingness to listen is the first way we demonstrate our desire to enter into relationship with God. "

¡Saludos de paz y amor!
Con la imposición de cenizas en nuestra frente el Miércoles de Ceniza (18 de febrero de 2026), entramos en la Cuaresma de 40 días, una temporada de conversión y penitencia en preparación para la Pascua. La Iglesia, que es madre y maestra, llama a todos sus miembros a renovarnos en espíritu y a volvernos una vez más con determinación hacia Dios, renunciando al orgullo y al egoísmo, a vivir en amor. La Cuaresma es un tiempo de Reflexión y también nos recuerda el viaje humano de otoño (momentos de tentaciones) y redención. Y por eso marcamos nuestra frente con cenizas en la SEÑAL DE UNA CRUZ. En palabras del difunto Papa Francisco, "Esto me recuerda la memoria de lo que somos, pero también la esperanza de lo que seremos. Las cenizas nos recuerdan que somos Polvo, y a POLVO VOLVEREMOS. Pero también nos pusieron en un viaje hacia la esperanza a la que estamos llamados. Porque Jesús descendió al polvo de la tierra y, por su Resurrección, nos ha llevado consigo al corazón del Padre."
Además, la Cuaresma es un tiempo en el que la Iglesia, guiada por un sentido de cuidado maternal, nos invita a colocar el misterio de Dios de nuevo en el centro de nuestras vidas, para encontrar renovación en nuestra fe y evitar que nuestro corazón se consuma por las ansiedades y distracciones de la vida diaria.
¿Cuál es el significado de los 40 días en la Biblia? Los 40 días de Cuaresma simbolizan el tiempo que Jesús pasó ayunando y enfrentando la tentación en el desierto antes de comenzar su ministerio (Marcos I: 12-15; Mateo 4:1-11). Moisés ayunó durante cuarenta días y noches en el monte Sinaí antes de recibir las tablas del pacto, los diez mandamientos (Éx 34:28). A los ninivitas se les dio cuarenta días del profeta Jonás antes de que Dios fuera a destruir la ciudad, permitiendo tiempo para el arrepentimiento y la conversión. (Jon 3:4-5). El periodo de 40 días suele asociarse con un "punto de ruptura" o "periodo de espera" que culmina en un gran despertar espiritual para un nuevo comienzo.
Sin embargo, la renovación espiritual en la Biblia, toda historia o camino hacia la conversión comienza permitiendo que la palabra de Dios toque nuestros corazones y entregándonos a Él, porque Él no puede hacer maravillas en nuestras vidas si endurecemos nuestro corazón. Esta transformación o renovación espiritual ha sido esencial para el cristianismo desde sus inicios y se denomina conversión (griego, metanoia), que significa cambiar tu mente, tu ser completo y, por tanto, reformar toda tu vida.
Nuestra primera lectura sobre el Miércoles de Ceniza del Profeta Joel capítulo 2 dice: "Incluso ahora, dice el SEÑOR, vuelve a mí con todo tu corazón, ayunando, llorando y lamentándose; Desgarra vuestros corazones, no vuestras ropas, y volved al SEÑOR, vuestro Dios."
¿Por qué debemos volver a Dios? Porque algo no está bien en nosotros, no está bien en la sociedad, no está bien en nuestra relación entre nosotros, no está bien en nuestra relación con Dios. Y por eso dice el profeta Joel, necesitamos cambiar y dar a nuestra vida en esta época de Cuaresma una nueva dirección. En palabras del Papa León, "La conversión auténtica comienza haciendo espacio para la Palabra de Dios a través de la escucha. La disposición a escuchar es la primera manera en que demostramos nuestro deseo de entrar en relación con Dios. "
Queridos feligreses, aprovechemos los muchos eventos espirituales que nuestra comunidad nos ofrece esta Cuaresma, para profundizar nuestra relación personal con Dios.
